Commissioned by Fintona Girls' School, Heritage Workshop investigated the significant Lincrusta wallpaper within its historic Tourmont Building, Balwyn. Designed by architect John Beswicke and completed in 1891–92, the building retains exceptional original interior elements.
The subject of our study—Lincrusta’s 'Art Nouveau' Dado—is a durable, embossed wallcovering that pays homage to the celebrated Scottish Art Nouveau style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Led by Dr James Lesh, our investigation combined comprehensive historical research with a detailed site assessment to confirm the wallpaper’s provenance and structural integrity.
Given its significance as a heritage feature, we provided clear recommendations for the restoration of this remarkable interior element."
