THE CHALLENGE
As cities densify, the tension between preserving low-rise historic environments and constructing high-rise towers intensifies. The challenge is to manage the inevitability of urban change without erasing the character that makes our cities valuable.
OUR APPROACH
Founding Director Dr James Lesh has developed best-practice models for integrating vertical growth within heritage precincts:
► Strategic Analysis: We examine successful precedents on iconic streets—including Collins Street (Melbourne), St George's Terrace (Perth), and Martin Place (Sydney)—to understand how scale and fabric can coexist.
► Design Framework: We provide the heritage rationale that allows architects and planners to create sophisticated, contemporary responses that respect, rather than dominate, their historic context.
THE OUTCOME
Our work provides a clear model for development, demonstrating that high-rise construction and heritage conservation are not mutually exclusive, but can be integrated to create rich, layered urban environments.
