Join the Robin Boyd Foundation at Walsh Street for a discussion on Pacific Rim modernism with Warren Andersen and Dr James Lesh.
Warren Andersen will explore California and Perth within the Pacific Rim as a zone of cultural and architectural exchange. His talk will consider how migration, hybridity and local adaptation shaped modernism beyond Europe, producing parallel modernist outcomes across the Pacific – shared in spirit, yet distinctly formed by geography, climate and ways of living.
Dr James Lesh shifts the focus to Victoria, exploring the challenges of preserving our modern heritage. He will examine the complex history of protecting post-1945 sites and provide an update on current conservation activities and planning policies.

Warren Andersen is the author of The Architecture of Iwan Iwanoff and the forthcoming publication Perth Modern. He is a business management and urban planning consultant with over 40 years’ experience across both the public and private sectors. A life member of the Local Government Planners Association, he has also served as an international committee member of the American Planning Association.
Dr James Lesh is a historian, heritage specialist, and the founding director of Heritage Workshop – a consultancy delivering innovative solutions in heritage planning, policy, and placemaking. A recognised thought leader, James has published extensively on the theory and history of the field. He holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne and has held research and teaching positions across Australia and the United Kingdom.
